and FYI, the last I heard from Carmen Battaaglia , last year, the AKC is
not allowing any new varieties to be added at this time.

And what makes you people think that changing the standard is going to do
a
damn thing to make these dogs and their people "more" inclusive??????
Changing the standard to include stockhair or blue eyes, or roached backs,
or akita heads, or husky tails, or any other specific KNOWN FAULT isn't
going to change the ability of the judges to judge by the Standard. Most
of
them should be retired from the ring, be required to review and answer a
standard test that isn't open book, and they should be required to have
continuing education delivered by a BREEDER who is not affiliated with
handlers, or the Good Ol' Boys club. Maybe then you'd get some
effectiveness and change why people have left this breed. Yes dog entries
are down all over, but how is it that it's just German Shepherd Dogs who
are
struggling to get entries. Check the statistics of other breed nationals
--
their people are still coming.
And it's not only about money -- How many of the people who finally said,
"I
do not like the direction of this breed, I do not like the direction of
the
leadership of this club" and left resigned their decades long memberships
have been asked why they left? I've been a member of the Arabian Horse
Association for less than a year, and they're already asking me how I like
my membership, they want input.
Including whites into the breed is a bad choice. Their purists want to be
their own breed. And as long as they're not using colored GSD's to build
their stock, then they should be allowed to have their own breed like they
are in other parts of the world. Then they are not our problem anymore.
Changing the standard is a weak, lily livered, bandaid approach to a far
greater problem. Figure out why your members are leaving, why people are
not willing to spend their $$'s to show GSD's but are willing to spend as
much or more on showing other breeds or other animals, and you'll be
doing
something. Figure out why long time members are leaving the club -- and
be
willing to change to fix THAT problem and maybe you'll get out of this
mess.
But changing the standard is the absolute wrong thing to do, and will
further drive the people away.
