Another year has come and gone. No matter what I personally think about some of the bloodlines that have saturates the breed, I have to give credit where credit is due: There are a lot of very nice animals being produced. I don't know where people are going to go with all these outstanding bitches and dogs - cause you know sometimes too much of a good thing is not always a good thing - as much as I've stayed out of that genepool, I guess I'm just going to have to give up and say, there is no denying that quality animals have been produced. You know -- I love the National - I love the excitement of a good show and the feeling you get when you see beautiful animals being presented, graded, evaluated and gaited. We all can't agree on every placement, or every winner, but when a judge gets most of the good ones in a line up to their satisfaction, and makes it a dog show, and you can see what it is they like - well what more can we ask? I think all three of our Nationals judges did a pretty decent job of putting the stamp of what they like in the breed. Not everyone will agree with everything, but that's what makes it a dog show, I guess. The GV and GVx are excellent representatives of the breed! The dog is a younger dog, but the nice thing about him (and I told his owners this last year when I saw him and loved him), he looks like a dog, and more importantly, he moves like a dog - this statement gets me in trouble a lot, but I'm sorry, dogs do not move like bitches and vice versa (or at least they shouldn't) - there's an intrinsic difference in the power and bulk that a dog must move in comparison to what a bitch does. The Grand Victrix - well those breeders and owners of that bitch should be THRILLED - what an outstanding bitch! Her carriage, presence, desire, correctness - a package hard to come by. I loved her as a young bitch in Colorado - and she's matured into simply a lovely bitch. Congratulations to you, the Breeders and owners of the GV, GVx and Select animals at this year's VERY Exciting National Best of Breed competition - Dave's procedure and sorting methods sure help build the excitement of My Favorite Day of the year! On a side note, with the exception of perhaps our Bitch competition judge, the speed and tightness of lead allowed on the dogs moving in the classes and in specials was very disconcerting at all levels - Maybe I'm just blind, or slow, but the speed the majority of these dogs were doing, really does nothing to enhance and showcase that elastic, athletic, outreaching suspending sidegait which has hallmarked our breed for over 100 years - and those handlers who insist on trying to "fool" everyone with the tight leads - better remember - they don't always end their rounds on a tight lead and viola when it goes loose, a Plethora of change is VERY EVIDENT in outline and abilities of rears to work with fronts. I don't understand why people insist on this method of showing, and more importantly, why these judges allow it, but hey. what do I know??? I can only hope that our judges over the next year will pay attention to what we are missing in the breed - NATURAL, athletic, suspended motion which does not need a lead to make it appear. Anyway, I've got to get off here, pack my bags, load the van and make the 5.5 hour drive to Chicago so I can then take a plane home. Maybe it won't be such a long haul getting into Salt Lake next year. Kathaleen ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2009.
