Subject: The Importance of Phone Calls in Defeating PAWS or ANY  
Legislation......
Last year, I had the opportunity to attend an  AR
Conference where the keynote speaker was none other
than John Goodwin,  Grassroots Outreach Coordinator for
HSUS.  I went back and looked at the  notes I took from
that conference - and the following statement  CLEARLY
illustrates just how important phone calls can be and
how much of  a difference they can make!

"His first point was that phone calls to  legislators
WORK.  H$U$ has a "Humane Activist Network" - which  is
basically a list of their members that is broken down
into legislative  districts.  When an "alert" goes out
on a particular issue, the State  Coordinator contacts
volunteers and tells them that phone calls are  needed
to legislators.  He gave an example of an issue in one
state  (can't remember the issue or the state as I
apparently didn't write it down),  but when the "alert"
was sent out - their members made phone calls  about
the issue - and managed to get it passed when
legislators received a  TOTAL of 65 phone calls - 62
from the AR side and only 3 phone calls  opposing!!!"

So CALL, CALL, CALL!!!  EVERY DAY!!!!  Until PAWS  is
dead and buried!!!!
