[ SHOWGSD-L ] The Humanity

We just receaved power last night for the first time, and we are among the
lucky ones!
After reading some 500+ post, I cannot tell you how proud I am of this list,
and to be part of it. Your desire to help and do whatever necessary to help
shows the humanity you guys possess.
Unfortunately there is the inhumanity part! What you see and hear on the
news concerning the violence, multiply that several times. Houma and the
surrounding area, for the most part, was spared the wrath of Katrina. Still,
we
are under curfew. Very few buisnesses are open.
Food is difficult to purchase, as stores run out quickly. Compared to New
Orleans, we are in "country club" conditions. We are about 30 to 40 miles SW
of New Orleans (Greg and I) and things are still restrictive here. I just
called the Authorities, and the curfew is still in effect. Buisnesses can be
opened from 8Am to 8PM in my Parish. Because I am in the Night Club buisness,
that kills me! You cannot purchase alcohol period. If one thinks about it,
thats a good thing. I asked if we were under Marshall Law, and her reply
was, "Not yet".
Overcrouding will soon become a problem. My home was spared, so it is now
referred to as "Randy's Motel". We are eight in number. A couple of friends
from New Orleans, and my employees, who have not place to go. They are slowly
getting on my nerves!(lol)
Just about all of the attention on this catastrophy is focused on New
Orleans, but I fear the conditions there will slowly trickly down to the
smaller
communities. The rebound from this will take years, but it will be done. The
people that inhabit this part of the world are as tenacious as a Jack
Russell, and a little nuts. They will survive.
