P.S. The handlers are not defying the judge when they do not give him a
loose lead(lip service judges) but they will give the judges who mean it a
loose lead when asked. They know who is sincere and who is not.

D.D., you are absolutely correct! Asking for a loose lead and demanding it
are two totally diffrent things. I have seen judges that ask and do not get a
loose lead, and there are those who just never ask for it. " Slow and loose"
allows judges to observe the dog in it's natural gait. When I judged the
Canadian
National last year, a well known handler did not win their class because I
never got to see their animal on a loose lead. After several requests, the
handler continued to show the dog on a tight lead. The number of assignments is
not
important, consistency in the ring is!
