Don't know just when this was posted about the dogs gaiting in the ring that could not do it outside of the ring but I have to add a dimes worth. The dog who gaits or moves correctly in the ring could also maintain this while working sheep. Go to a Herding Trial watch the dogs move off lead, extending in front and rear, you will be able to see correct movement and it sure is fun to watch. However, those dogs who are faulty and have to race around the ring while being held up by a handler and his leash would probably not be able to work sheep properly or do Agility or work as a Service Dog or work a 1000 yard Track or .......
