Norma, we all love you (I sure do), but we have a large disagreement there.
The reason there are so many animals in the shelter is that PEOPLE put them
there. They get tired of them, they don't take the time to properly
housebreak the, they are unmannerly and jump on visitors, they get a new puppy.
etc.,
etc., etc.

The reason that the dog farms started is because we listened so hard to those
who said we were overpopulating, and started requiring S/N in our contracts.
There was a need for MORE dogs, so the Dog Farms started and supplied them.
Then the PEOPLE .....etc., etc. Now the smuggling, the huge imports of
thousands of pups begins to fill the desire of PEOPLE who want puppies. Then
the PEOPLE....etc., etc.

Castrating (and that term CAN be used for both sexes) a puppy at 16 weeks
leads to incontinence (trip to the pound), long, immature bodies on larger
dogs,
ACLs (just shown to tbe the case by an AVMA journal article (December, 2007)),
and on and on. Check NAIA and find out the REAL problems caused by early
s/n. Do I disagree that dogs should be neutered, WHEN the owner wants them to
be? OF course not. I've got two spayed bitches, and considering the third.
Older than 16 weeks for SURE!!!!

To keep dogs out of the pound (And that, despite the AR line, decreases
yearly), we need more PEOPLE who care and decide that, as the other thread this
morning showed, no matter WHAT, their dogs are their dogs for life.

My two cents...
