I fully agree Evan.    At this point we are throwing money at many who
do not even like us, nor our dogs.   We are
definitely supporting them in many ways.....and absolutely no support
from SV people that I know of?  I believe in
the "total" German Shepherd Dog......but we should be promoting our
own American Bred dogs here.

I do not believe there is a great divide between conformation and any
performance here
'in general'   most of the conformation breeders I know DO care about
sound character and trainability.
Many just don't DO the participation in training EVENTS.   We are all
somewhat limited by a lot of things...from  jobs,
time, money, family, age, or physical hindrances or even a lack of
interest in one or the other to do ALL the things we
would love to do with our dogs.
The  "divide"  is usually just handicaps in our lives we cannot
change. There IS a pretty big divide  at our National....but
it is simply because of limitations of time and location.   Those
involved in Herding, Rally, Obedience, etc.....or Conformation,
from Puppy classes, to Futurity finals to B.O.B. Competition have
traveled many miles and spent a lot of time  preparing for
National Competition. and once there....are super busy and committed
to their involvement in that venue.   ALL venues go
on for a couple of days and most of us just cannot spread ourselves
nor our time that thin.
I don't think that comes under the heading of "not caring" about the
others...or jealousy.

If we are spending money and time promoting the SV dogs here.....why
are we not considering spending time and money
on a  'PERFORMANCE'  NATIONAL for our own?    Do they have to do bite
work to be a "total" dog?
They ARE a Herding Breed......?

To me, the problem has been the way the WDA was established. For years
the GSDCA supported them, while they used all German dogs to compete
in the performance events and claimed the American bred dogs could not
do it.
Those individuals continued to denigrate the American bred dogs, and
finally it resolved with them suing the GSDCA.
Now we have a new group to replace them called the SV, (which is much
bigger than the GSDCA, and is based in Germany).  Now there is a week
show for the SV before the GSDCA National, and still the GSDCA is
called upon to support the event.
Someone needs to stop the madness. I recognize the need for the total
dog, but then the total dog has to step up and carry some weight. In
looking over the finances, there is a direct loss from the SV events
and always has been.

I wonder, are other breeds so divided between Conformation and
Performance?   Seems like the GSDCA is almost extreme.  Would do well
to remember that ALL are GSDs and part of the club and should be
having a good time.
Can't the Conformation people appreciate an outstanding performer, and
can't Performance appreciate a great Conformation?   Sounds like
jealousy.
To make the club work, it needs both.  Wouldn't it be great to see
more cross over from both sides.  A great Conformation dog excelling
in Performance and vice versa.  Just because some particular dog
doesn't fit your
idea of perfection,is no reason to snub them from either side of the
ring.
I can understand not helping each other in a show when busy getting
ready. But when there is time, showing some sense of caring would be
most welcome!
As long as each is afraid of the other taking over the club instead of
embracing each other, I don't see how it can survive.  Anne, GA
