I’ve got a Boss story also…. Santa Cruz, CA – we entered early enough to go into the ring first. The judge was checking us all off and we went around and took our place, waiting for the rest of the dogs to do the same. Four of so dogs back, this big dark dog came into the ring and my mouth dropped opened. I know we would not win. The judge looked up from his clip board and stared with his mouth opened. He then came to the front of the line to do our individuals, but kept looking back at The Boss. He was going over my dog, hands running down the back, etc., etc… but was not looking at him, he was looking back at Boss. So I leaner over and said, “Just give it to him and get him out of our class!” He laughed, started to apologize, and I stopped him. I was also taken by his presence and command of the ring. He owned the show. The judge did give it to him and I believe it finished him that day! He was not just good – he was commanding! I haven't told this story before, but I think of it often. I was in the stands and sat down next to Carolyn, with The Boss between us. As I talked to Carolyn, I put my arm around The Boss and was petting him. Now you have to know The Boss. He was a strong masculine male dog, that knew just who he would tolerate and who he would not. Carolyn looked at me, and said; "Are you sure you want to be doing that?" I looked The Boss in the eyes for a minute, and he stared back at me. There have only been two dogs in my life that I thought were actually communicating with me. One was an all black called Dien, and the other was The Boss. The Boss told me it was fine to have my arm around him, and even though I was sitting with Carolyn, he was OK with it. That may sound like a stupid story, but I know exactly what The Boss was telling me. I don't know if Carolyn even remembers it, but to me it was like yesterday. I have a picture on my wall in my office right above my computer screen of Tedi, Jane Kerner and Carolyn. They all have bright light behind them, and look like hallows. And, they are all smiling.
