Hi Paula
I don`t know a heck of a lot about it but I do know that the GSD is a
tending breed. What he does is to create an artificial fence so that the
flock can graze on different pastures without the need for real fencing.
They maintain that fence line (think of it as a invisible fence without the
electric collars) and then also drive (or drove) the sheep to the next areas
and create a new fence. In Germany, I have heard of GSD`s maintaining a
flock of 1000 sheep without fencing.

I am just learning about this herding stuff. Now we have tending???
Would someone please explain, in layman's terms, the difference between
tending and herding, as far as the testing, instinct, competing, and titling
is concerned?

What are "tending breeds?" I know they are not an AKC group. Are they
herding group breeds, or just some herding group breeds, or other breeds?

Thanks.

Paula, 70 days and counting
