I had a call from a neighbor who had 2 dogs who as he stated "were not
suited for ranch life" and could I take them. with in 15 min. I had called
the contact person for the Humane society in Kamloops. I told her they were
probably not UTD for shots, so I would do that much over night them and
drive them to town in the morning. one was a female basset hound and one a
wire haired terrier.
The humane society said that they would be easy to place.I phoned this
neighbor back and left a message. well 2 1/2 hours later he just phone me
back and informed me that it was to late:-((
I told him he gave me all of 15 minutes to solve his problem! and hung up on
him ! I am so mad! and he sounded drunk to boot!!!
I may have 10 dogs but they are kept safe and loved and groomed and feed and
trained! he only had two and they are DEAD!

No this is not a stretch of the imagination. It very well could happen.
There are rescue people I know and have worked with (mind you I did not say
friends) who if given the chance to visit many of your properties would
declare
you horrid "commercial breeders " or "backyard breeders" or "puppy mills"
or
"animal brokers" or any other stretch of what these terms REALLY mean. How
dare
you keep so many dogs outside in kennels (reality: they saw 7 dogs that
were
in outside kennels while you cleaned your house), how could you possibly
give them the attention they deserve. OMG there was poop everywhere
(reality:
they saw a few piles since you last cleaned up 4 hours ago), they had NO
food
and were so thin you could see there ribs - they were starving (reality: it
was
2 in the afternoon so of course they had no food down you feed twice a day
and the dogs were lean or maybe like my River prefer to stay thin by
boycotting anything that didn't come from McDonalds), they were unkept and
in horrid
shape (reality: some of them had some pieces of fluff sticking out of their
hair as they are shedding right now getting ready to grow winter coats and
you
haven't had a chance to brush them out this week) and horrors - you breed
them and the poor puppies were outside in a kennel (reality: they are
spoiled
rotten and live in your house but you refuse to keep them like moles in the
basement so they are out sunning themselves) and the water was so filthy it
was
probably swimming with germs (reality: the puppies all went swimming in the
dog bowl just long enough ago that they are now dry)
Sound a bit out in left field, I have had this conversation with "rescue"
people about dogs that were very loved and well cared for. There are more
people
in rescue that dramatize and spend their efforts doing and saying anything
that gets attention than there are people trying to make a real difference
the
right way and where it counts and actions like the one Tammy Grimes took is
in my opinion going to do more harm in reaching for appropriate laws that
make it possible for real abuse to be investigated and offenders to face
real
consequences rather than generalized laws they can then twist around to
their
own benefit. I don't think anyone on this list feels that there should not
be
some way to stop abuse but the way people like Tammy Grimes want to run
"rescue" is not in anyone who owns dog's best interests.
