If you can't get out for alum, try a strong anti-perspirant... the main ingredient there is probably alum. And if anyone wants to know why it works, just dampen a fingertip, touch it to the alum or rub it across the anti-perspirant, and put it in your mouth............EEEK............ it'll make you suck in your cheeks like nothing else... We used to put powdered alum around cuts or wounds on horses to make them stop worrying them and making them worse...it really works...one little taste and they won't go back for more. (As opposed to hot pepper flakes, which some idiot animals even get to liking!!!)
