  Tacoma Washington meeting 12-12-06
  RE: proposed mandatory spay/neuter ordinance.

A suggestion given from someone who attended was to continue to write to
the Tacoma council and keep them well reminded that the ordinance as written
is no good.
Contact information is below the report from last nights meeting.

"What happened last night was the public hearing portion of the bill. The
council members assured us that they?d already been somewhat educated by the
hundreds of letters and e-mails they?d received and that they would be
making some amendments before it came up to the first and second readings
and the vote. She said we will have additional opportunities to come to
those council meetings and make more comments. I think they said that 55
people spoke on the proposal. I didn?t keep an exact count, but probably 10
of them were concerned with the provisions that would ban horses and
livestock within city limits. Of the rest there were two people that seem
like they probably go to all the meetings and talk. There were probably 10
or so AR types (one from as far away as Arlington/Stanwood) that were
eloquent and well-prepared. There were a few more folks that want the
legislation, but weren?t slick and well-prepared. The rest of the fo lks
were against the legislation. There were 2 speakers that were brilliant and
I wished I could?ve given them my time? Almost everyone was well prepared
and made some good points. The room was packed, but I don?t know what?s
normal for the city council meetings. It was almost 8 p.m. when they took a
short recess so all of us could leave while they continued on with other
unrelated business."
