If we want more tests and want to encourage good and consistent tests, we need
to have a good open program. We need to train and evaluate the evaluators and
we need to make them available to clubs for educational programs about the
temperament testing program.
This is a very important program in this club and we need to strengthen it and
encourage clubs to offer tests.

I hate to break it to you, but I approached Jim York (more than once) for
info to become an evaluator and his response was "I don't need anymore
evaluators".......which surprised me, considering the amount of clamor for

Temperament Test thru out the nation. And no, I wasn't the only one. You
have to
be a lucky one to get into that group.
Check out the archives for The List at the beginning of this year. There was
a very lively discussion regarding this same topic. Thank God for archives,
as memories are sometimes short lived <G>.
It is a mystery how many evaluators are active, how many more SHOULD be
working, what's the process to become an evaluator, how you can become an
apprentice, how long it takes to finish your training.....all a mystery. I
know,
I've asked numerous times, and never got a response. We have heard from
many
members who would LOVE to assist in this committee, but the doors are always
closed. Kind of discouraging, don't you think?
I would like to know who are the current evaluators, and their credentials,
as they are trusted to evaluate our breed on something as important as
temperament. I remember the late's Bob Penny and Dick Whalen, they were
awesome
evaluators. Also Peggy Douglas, watched her in action and was very impressed
with her procedure. I believe Jim York is also an evaluator, and I have no idea
of his history. I am sure many others don't either, as it is impossible for
us
to know everyone in the breed. So that's 2 evaluators, maybe.
I stand strong on my believe that evaluators should NOT be asking for dogs
pedigree information when conducting an evaluation. I don't think the
temperament test is the place for that kind of interrogation/exchange.
This Committee may want to seriously consider a little more openness with
the membership.
Maybe you and Gail can look into this after the National.

I think that there are a few people who are still apprenticing to become
evaluators. I'm not sure what all one has to do to become an evaluator
but

know you can't just say you want to be one and then you are one. Jim
York
has taken over for Bob Penny so I would suggest talking to him at the
National
about getting more evaluators into the program.
