Not many know the real story.
When Ed was but a young man, he was known as Bud. Everyone called him Bud,
but as a worker in Oakland, it didn't seem tough enough. So, Bud tried to
start a new nickname for himself.

another black man was arrested and they kept confusing Bud for Tookie, so he

Bud then realized that after three wives, (and rumors about a significant

was time for Bud to grow up. Of course, what else could be but Flower Man.
He got a large yellow cape, and blue tights, with leather boots and gloves,
and started to fight crime in his home town. The city council got together
and asked him to leave justice up to Jerry Brown, (the then mayor) and
demanded he go back to being called "Boy". Although Ed felt it a bit insulting,
he
decided he could not go against the will of the people and has been known as
Flower Boy from that day forward.
Every now and then you can see him don the cape again, but usually only in
the privacy of his own home with Charlotte behind him. You know which one is
Charlotte, she is the one in the leather boots and holding the whip.
Seldom are they seen together, and when they are, she is often dressed as a
Canadian man, born in India. She now calls herself Bill Basu.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
