I agree. Points are not "stolen". They are "awarded". Hopefully, they are
awarded to the dog and bitch who best represent the standard on that day. If a
puppy is old enough to compete, it is old enough to take points. I see nothing
in the standard about age. When people start adding criteria that are not in
the standard, that is when we run into problems with judging!

From my viewpoint if the puppy is the best dog that day, the points should be
awarded accordingly. Points should not be awarded on age, but on quality. Many
judges fret over giving puppies points because they fear the puppy may "fall
apart" and they would look foolish and be ridiculed down the road for giving it
points. However the alternative is to give an older dog points that lacks
merit,
simply because he is older. Yes, puppies can fall apart, but an older average
speciman will always be average and will never get better. It is what it is. I
think I would fret more if I gave a dog points and found out that he had been
shown for quite a while and had been struggling to finish! I feel the same
about
Best of Breed. Best of Breed means the best of the breed on that day. Just
because a finished animal is shown, does not mean he is worthy of Breed because
he is already a champion, the dog should be the best exhibited that day in the
judges opinion, whether a champion, WD or WB
. Again, I don't think you should be judging the dogs prior record, you should
be judging the merit of all animals shown as specials on that day against the
standard. Again, many judges fret if they don't reward the Special BOB, then
they will be subject to ridicule by some of the fancy, or by those who lost on
that day.
