within the past month I have received three operator assisted calls...all out
of state...the operator translates the call to me saying that the person on the
other end is hearing impaired...the person who claims to be impaired wants me
to send him/her my email address, pictures etc.....each time I have politely
responded that I do not ship dogs......told my wife this must be some kind of
scam...anyone else have this happen?...Ed

I occasionally get those
calls/emails asking for a "police" discount, because they are an
officer.
�I do not give discounts, since I actually have several police officers as
clients for their "pet" dogs, and met canine cops who tell me about
the large amounts of money their departments pay for dogs..� According to
the officers I have spoken to (and of course not looking for a discount) the
departments generally import their dogs, pay two to three times what most
people charge for pets, and receive extensive training and if a dog does not
work
out or xray, or when they retire the dog is placed� with either the handler,
rescue, or
shelter.

My current nightmare puppy person did this as well since he is an
officer, and thought police should get a discount.� I also had another dog I
placed and his owner
wanted to do search and rescue, since he was professional fireman.� Later, he
told me had to put him down to Lymes
at 3, due to kidney failure....only for me to learn through Facebook, on his
handler's page that the shed in which he was kept in collapsed on him during a
wind storm!!!!!�� So as you can see I am
a bit leery of officers who ask for discounts, and would check� them out very
thoroughly before you make
your decision.
As far as a service dog, I would ask them about their past service dog, and
where they got him/her from, and what organization they are using for training
so you may speak with them before you make a decision since a true service dog
usually needs extensive training and testing prior to being placed.
