I agree!!! Unless I missed something, I haven?t read anything that would
indicate that the BOD did not follow the proper procedures for hiring the new
editor. To paraphrase the old maxim, ?You can make some of the people happy
all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot make
all of the people happy all of the time!?
I have a feeling there would be more criticism and innuendos made if the BOD
had decided to leave the position open while they investigated, and debated if
a positive change, such as allowing the editor to show his/her dogs, should be,
or should not be made to the position description.

If everything went swiftly, wouldn?t that mean that after the recommendations
of the ad hoc committee were presented and voted on, the position description
rewritten, the P&P updated, and the advertisement written, it would not have
been published and made available to the public until the end of October or
first of November? Then how much longer for the hiring process? I betcha the
majority of members wouldn?t be too happy if the BOD had decided to sit around
for months waiting to hire the new editor!

Job descriptions change. Sometimes when jobs are advertised one set of rules
apply, then they change. It's a fact of life - no conspiracies - it happens in
the real world. Sometimes the changes benefit the employee, sometimes not.

Are employers supposed to leave jobs vacant for an undetermined amount of time
because they're contemplating a change in the PD, or are in the process of
researching a change? What good would it do if the PD had reflected, well, we
might change this or that, or then again, maybe we won't, but then again, maybe
we will. Can you imagine the confusion and ill will that would create
regardless of the final decision?

And yes, a PD was changed on me during my career and I'm sure I'm not alone. I
once took a "<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns =
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />9 to 5" job, Monday thru Friday.
Shortly after I started working the PD was changed to require mandatory
rotating shifts and rotating days off (seven days a week). I had a choice -
change jobs or work shifts without permanent days off!!! Sh*t happens!
