I think it may be because you have to defeat other dogs to get points in
conformation, unlike performance, where "all you need to do" is get a
qualifying score. I cannot speak to pride, as I feel a great deal of pride
when my dog does well in performance, but I do not feel as if anything is
"on the line" when we're on an agility course, or we're working through our
obedience exercises.
