In general, stirring the pot is a good thing. It is actually necessary in order to keep all of the ingredients cooking at about the same level. There comes a time though, when the soup is stirred so violently that it slops out of the pot and becomes nothing but a big mess. If a person keeps stirring after that point is reached, one can only wonder if the goal is to make soup, or to make a mess?
