I don't see that difference in the "tight ligamentation"....but in the actual structure. What I do see is upright pasterns that have no cushioning for the dog on landing. They actually 'lift' their feet UP like other Breeds in gaiting with no easy cushioned landing. REAR feet are angled OUT on most to appear almost cow-hocked. Long upper arms...which is nice....but SHORT shoulder blades. I think that is why their necks are set low, and their backlines angle down to meet the blade, instead of a nice wither sloping into the back. I am SURPRISED that the carped back has not improved at all by now? BUT..... what really surprises me is the "shallow" forechests I see. There is literally no posternum on any of these dogs. They are ALL narrow and hollow through the chest area between the front legs...and yet depth of ribbing from the side seems fine. Odd.... I don't "hate" these dogs as you say they hate our conformation dogs. THAT in itself is a sad commentary on their willingness to observe and learn! On the other hand...MANY HERE could learn from what they expect and have in temperament! I am and always have been an "observer"...and I am always looking for a really nice German dog. But I see these issues SO consistently.. (Also...I LOVE the consistency in handlers everywhere....they too are all lifting their hands to signal....MORE...MORE! ) <G> Carolyn marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.marhaven.com From: "" <dmarc-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> (Redacted sender "vhmerkel@xxxxxxxxx" for DMARC) Sent: Saturday, May 17, 2014 12:10 PM To: marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx; dmarc-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; 'Show List' Subject: Re: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: Watching The USCA Sieger show When dogs are pulling they exert more energy thus wearing down a dog not in condition or structurally not right. Judges won't even be watching the pull around for many laps just to wear them down. The go fast, then the walk, fast and then several laps of the walk again. The off lead gaiting is what also makes or breaks the placing. Off lead will show the drive and front better as well as a balanced stride not to mention the handlers control of the dog as they make many passes off lead with their dogs. Of course the courage test has ultimately determined who will be leading the class and who will be winning. Dogs that run due to fear most times are not able to get a rating. These dogs are bred for tight ligamentation and there in lies the difference between the two AKC vs German Showline GS's. All dogs who V rate are the best and high V rated dogs also get lots of breedings in Germany. Hence the consistency of type. At any large show I still only find around 4 animals if that many that I would consider taking home for my tastes, same when I see the German Dogs. I am just happy that they have bred those carp backs out and the short necks.. These dogs have become much more elegant. It's okay, their structure is getting better and the working dog people really hate the AKC conformation and the SV show line dogs equally so all are getting closer in similarity to bring such contempt from those people. lol On Saturday, May 17, 2014 11:58 AM, Carolyn Martello <marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Appreciate Lew Bunch posting this on the List. We have checked in and watched it off and on when we come in. We kind of like the 'casualness' of the show...people everywhere, even in the ring and toys in the ring. But...they obviously do not care about a nice easy long striding gait for herding....as you just CANNOT find it anywhere. Beautiful animals with wonderful temperament. Striking how much the dogs look alike. Almost all have beautiful coats, reddish color, great heads, nice bone and most have nice long saber tails. But.... Nice easy trot with suspension off of a nice rear drive and front extension? ......NOT SO MUCH!! <G> VERY restricted. More like 'dredging' dogs....trained to pull HARD. No one has to run fast to keep up...so it appears almost anyone can handle? You just need a STRONG left arm. Almost all have toplines or backs as angulated as our rears. <G> Necks seem to be short and set on low. All that is OK I guess....as long as the wicket fits. <G> What I do like...everyone seems to really like their dog...instead of them just being a commodity. I have not seen any comments. There is an impressive entry and the dogs I am seeing are pretty typical of the dogs you would expect to see at any German Show-line style of show. You might want to watch as an educational experience. Cynthia ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2014.
