AGAIN, the white GSD breeders/owners have NOT asked the GSDCA for any breed
standard changes.
Not sure who they are, and EVERY year? Really? "Every year those who want the

Possibly a bit of history would help at this point....
This issue is not new, and will probably never be resolved. There are some
problems that are unsolvable, at least in human relationships and dog clubs.
It really goes back to the SV making the white a DQ way back, and the GSDCA
following suite. Of course the SV has done several other things over the years,
changing their standard far more often than we change ours. Needless to say,
any
change will not be popular with everyone and so we have had this issue for
decades.
I read the proposal and it is from last year, not an old proposal but not brand
new either. The head issue is only related to the nose and the entire issue is
about long coats and white dogs. I do not understand the long coat issue as
they
are not a disqualifying fault now, in fact it is not a serious fault, or a very
serious fault. It is just a fault. The white issue is more clear. They are
currently a DQ.
Every year those who want the white accepted within the standard without fault
move to have the GSDCA change the standard. It has been so for every board,
including when I served on the board, back when dinosaurs roamed the land. It
has never gone away and it may be an issue until the earth ceases to exist from
global warming, global ice or global tyranny... I think tyranny has the better
shot.
I though we already voted on this, but then I am old, forgetful and tired of
the
issue anyway. Pardon my cynicism, but whatever the standard says will not
please
everyone and in order to have a breed, there has to be exclusions in the
standard. It is, by its nature and purpose exclusive. Can't be anything else.
Whatever it says will restrict those who want to be involved in our sport to
breeding for certain things and away from others. The real issue is not the
standard but the need in some to do what they want in contrast to the standard.
That will not change - ever!
So every year we discuss it on the list, get proposals sent to the GSDCA, send
them on to AKC and decide whether or not to poll the membership. So be it! So
here we are at our time on the list to discuss it again. So be it. I think I
will start a fire in the stove, wait for the rain to clear and write another
book.

Only question I have is "WHY" OR "WHO" approached AKC with any changes to our
Breed Standard...in other words who is responsible? I did not realize that
there
is a big push to change our GSD's. Is it because they can't or won't breed to
the "Standard as written"? There are only a few people that don't like our
standard...I guess they should look at a different breed of dog to get into
because apparently they aren't happy with this one.
If it isn't broke quit trying to fix it...or trying to fit a square peg into a
round hole!!! Just because you can doesn't mean you have too!!!
Your choice, which ever one of these sayings fit the occassion!!!
