One of my good friends in GSDs had her boy's spleen torsion - the vet thought he had cancer of the spleen, but when they went in to explore discovered it wasn't cancer, but it had torsioned instead - they removed it - it weighed over 5 lbs. and the vet said that he'd never seen such a huge spleen - said it fell apart in his hands and her dog was lucky to be alive. This dog went on to win his CH, and then bloated shortly thereafter - the vet who removed his spleen was so blown away by his spleen that he didn't think to tack the dog's stomach (which I understand is standard procedure - tacking the stomach after removing the spleen - correct?) until the dog was in recovery. Anyway, the dog survived, and has done beautifully since then. He looks great and appears very healthy. Good luck!!
