I feel we are having a run of hypo thyroid bitches and I have no idea why.
I also feel all show dogs and bitches should have a brucellosis test a
couple of times a year. I am not saying that owners or handlers are
carrying it in their kennel but when animals have to pee at a show and they
are not in the handler's xpens--who knows? It could just happen. I rather
feel that if you know the stud dog is fertile (from collection for chilled
or frozen semen) and your bitch misses the first time bred (under ideal
conditions) the first thing to be done is a thyroid test at Michigan
State---they seem to be the most reliable in diagnosing thyroid problems.
How each breeder handles it from there is their own business but Michelle's
story was interesting--maybe a one time thyroid treatment "kick started"
her bitch's thyroid. Who knows? I have no answers just reading and
thinking.
