I'm sure some of y'all saw this article today, but for those who didn't, go to:

About one exhibitor who has gotten some interesting & worth keeping
trophy/prizes from different events with her dogs. I know from my show-hosting
experiences that having good prizes/rosettes/trophies/whatever is a major draw
to a show. Like who wants a flat ribbon for the top prizes when they can get at
least a 3 steamer rosette at the very minimum for the same wins? I also found
offering club/kennel club logo prizes (one time shirts/sweatshirts where they
could go to the booth and choose their size at an A/B show) were extremely well
received- so were the 2' & 4' long rosettes for a specialty show the following
year! The gal whose bitch won the BOB rosette still keeps it hanging out as
her most treasured rosette she has ever gotten (and also the biggest top &
length)! The club only netted $30 for that one (national equivalent) specialty
show (and the entries were only $12 per and about 30 regular entries with a few
more non-regular classes at $5 per) but the prizes were to die for; plus as
others donated breed-specific trophies that they made themselves for quite
cheaply- the biggest expense for them were the brass plates for the fronts
(they were a figure of the breed on a stained wood base about 6" x 9" and 2"
tall) having bought the toppers on eBay or Amazon for a quantity deal. Ya,
people were pretty happy with what they went home with from those shows... And
you betcha that the following year's were much larger once word of nice
ribbons/rosettes got around! (Even with a location change it didn't matter
either- a larger much more expensive venue was used the following year and the
show profit proportionally larger for it too)
But then, I guess that's thinking for the long-term....
