I do wish we could have some sort of signature on all posts. But, I did read
the original post about dyed dogs. It is important to realize that when you
complain or even bring interest to one facet, you condemn the breed.
A few years ago our club sent a message to all judges to do a loose lead
temperament test. The result was many all breed judges took it to mean we had a
temperament problem in the German shepherd, and to this day I am hearing of our
problems.
Be careful what you mention, it can have unexpected consequences.

Yeah.........I saw that. People get jealous of other people's success. If that
post was aimed at Rumor..they could not be more wrong. I have watched her grow
up.......she is the same color now as she ever was. Go Rumor. I just know that
you are going to make us proud at Westminister!!!

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Sometimes Facebook sucks....
So....our breed currently has a beautiful representative holding the top
spot--#1 in all breeds, in the United States. "Rumor Has It" bred by Pam
McElhenny and Kent Boyles, sired by Canadian GV Ike out of Pam's Isis, has won
9 BIS this year, and several RBIS. Are we proud?
Mostly, the public and GSD fancy have been very supportive and positive about
Rumor. She is not only gorgeous on the outside, she has a wonderful
temperament and is a great breed ambassador. So -- this weekend a GSD person
posted two pictures. Two different bitches personally known to the poster. One
as an example of black/tan pigment, and one black/red. Both beautiful, neither
dyed. The purpose of the post was to express disapproval of GSD specials whose
appearance (particularly pigment) changes when they move from the classes to
the specials ring.
The unfortunate result of this was a bunch of people criticizing the "bad dye
jobs" on these two bitches who most of us would recognize and who are natural
in color. Just members of JQP not understanding the post or the pictures, but
getting the impression that GSD people routinely dye their dogs. GREAT, RIGHT?
Then, people chimed in, some feeling the post was aimed at Rumor. I don't think
it was, but can see how that impression was given...one week before
Westminster. Very poor timing for image-bashing on the GSD. Clearly, Rumor has
been a beautiful black/red bitch since she was a puppy (I remember seeing her
with a Kent at the Denver 2012 National when she was a pup)--but we have to
remember when we are busy fighting it out in public on Facebook that the power
of social media is huge. It's not just members of the general public but also
judges who read these things...I'm not blaming the initial poster for this --
don't believe this was her intent, but I sure wish it would all be removed
before it gets worse. Some of the bitch fights are already worse than the one
I had to take my dad to the E.R. for.
Instead of bashing each other, let's have a united front, be proud one of our
dogs is currently #1 (and beat last year's #1, Matisse the Portuguese Water Dog
for BIS this Saturday), and have a great Westminster to look forward to. There
are several really nice GSDs being campaigned, let's hope they all have a great
show and make a good impression.
