from the way amy explained it, her friend's dog was the only one in the
class and the judge had the option of withholding first place. when he chose
to give the dog a first place ribbon, he made his "statement". had amy's
friend approached the judge after he was finished judging and ASKED him to
critique her dog (to whom he obviously did not award Winners or Reserve),
THEN he could have chosen to explain why he did not consider the dog any
further when awarding the point(s) and he could have done so in a constructive
manner rather than denigrating the dog and hurting the owner. the sort of
comment he made was in no way constructive.
amy also stated that her friend handled the dog herself. in a rapidly
declining "sport", the last thing we need to do is hurt and turn away people
who are just trying their hand at something new and, as in this case, with
an animal they dearly love. sounds to me like this judge simply WASN'T
thinking and exercised extremely poor judgement..
