What a great way to honor the (NEWBIES) he,he maybe we should start doing
things like this again.hell most marriegas sure don't last that long. Morgan

It's interesting that Ginny should post that LAST sentence. I've heard over
the last few years about people getting their 25 yr pin,and complaining that
they had not received it, I guessed it was a new thing,thought it was a nice
gesture and let it go, But none of us old timers got a 25 yr pin ,or even a
certificate,which was only given on your retiring from service on the Board
. The first year that Gail took over as membership chairman from the
treasurer ( forgot his name) of Dan Smith's presidency ,She gave out some
membership
certificates( correct me if I'm wrong Gail)and I got one with some odd number
--38 yrs or something. And that was it, until a group of us were honored
last year at St. Louis for 50 yrs of service. Of course there was a time when
the GSDCA National was dedicated to a specific person,and I was privileged to
receive that honor.
That tradition,was lost along the way as the club grew larger. Burr Robins
,Blanche Beisswenger,Marie Leary,Ernie Loeb were also honored that way. The
recipient's National expenses were paid,your one page Biography in the front
of the NATIONAL catalog,and then taken to the middle of the ring. announced
and cheered--kind of embarrassing,but fun. But we used to do stuff like that. I
remember also that one of the years I was judging the National,happened to
fall on my birthday and they brought a big cake with candles on it to the
middle of the ring,and everyone sang Happy Birthday. It was a big pan cake and
they cut it in little squares and was given out to all for as long as it
lasted. Why did we have so much fun back then--everyone was nice. People were
competitive,of course,but we didn't have the meanness,and incivility that
exists
now
