I say we move the national to an outside location and not have to worry about
buying grass. The vendor could be on one side and the paid seating on the
other. Without the expense of the building I bet we could even pay for flushing
porta potties, a tent set up for the handlers. One set up for the officials
Etc. We might try this once in a while to generate income.We would need to go
to a warmer climate if we are going to have it in late Oct or Early Nov. I
would
much rather take a chance every third year than to have to go indoors every
year. Performance is outside why not conformation too?

We show the whole show year on grass and there is absolutely no reason to
change
that for a National. Having sod at the National should be a requirement and not
a "nice to have". Other than the good points made for the well being of the
dogs and us "old" handlers, on a purely emotional level when i see a dirt
National it seems to take away from some of the prestige and aura of a
National. IMHO Grass is Class and Dirt is Dirt
.
BTW if the judge needs dirt to find the faults of a dog, he or she needs to go
back and take the judging exam again and see if they can pass.
