Amen to what both of you ladies are preaching. My dogs are house dogs who
happen to be show dogs. That's they way I like it. It obviously hasn't affect
their performance. And 3 dogs are my limit. That way they can be part of the
family and not just inventory and expenses. I have had a couple that came from
"kennels" and their behavior is quite different. I have returned 3 dogs because
of temperament. And they did well once they went back to what they considered
home. I kept one because she is truly a sweet, soft dog, and she deserves to
live with a family, not to live in a kennel. She is also spayed.

I find that being PC has affected how we treat GSDs. They are meant to be
aloof. But stand their ground. I come across a lot of people that want their
dogs to be friends with everything and every one. Hell, you don't even like
every one you meet. Why should your dog? But it should still hold it's ground.
Without shyness or aggression.

By the way, the crock we use in herding, it shows dogs boundaries. Not fear. I
never want my dogs to fear me. I want them to love, respect and obey me. In
that order.

I have also learned a lot from my mistakes. No doubt.

Personally, I love a tough dog, a dog that can think. It makes for interesting
living, but they make awesome dogs.

It's been a nice discussion to follow.

Sally, hope you are feeling better. :-)
