Well, it isn't that these breeds don't shed, exactly...but they have to
be groomed. Cairns require no trimming, so that would be
easiest...Sealys are about the most difficult of terriers to do
up...that coat doesn't take to stripping easily. That means you'd have
to clip it, and then it won't look like the Sealys you know. Don't
these people tell you how hard it is to do a Sealy coat?
They are a lovely breed...but the grooming, even when not for show, is a
real bitch!
Both can be a bit feisty, and with a larger breed, you have to watch
that they don't instigate something that ends up with them being dead.
I'm with those who suggested a Border Terrier...not so inclined to
make trouble, as they were bred to not be quarrelsome.
You could also try a Norwich or Norfolk...all these little Terriers need
some grooming, you know...not just a brush up now and then--but of all
of them, the Sealy coat is the most difficult. There's a reason it is
one of the less popular terrier breeds, and I, for one, believe it's the
grooming. All the Terriers are pretty sturdy, and most make great
companions...but keep in mind that most pets won't look like the dogs in
the books or at the shows, not without some work..and when making your
choice, remember that there are a lot of terriers who love starting
trouble...they aren't referred to as "terrors" by their breeders for
nothing.
