To all. Laura is right on!!! Since there is still no "genetic marker" for this disease, many are passing it on and do not even know it until it is too late. IMO it is more prevalent in certain blood lines The 2007 Red Book has a good article on EPI. If you are even thinking about breeding you need to be aware of this disease. It is devastating for all concerned. Since the animals can not digest their food, they literally starve to death unless they are supplemented with the right enzymes and/ or a change of food. It is also costly and time consuming for the owners and alters every ones quality of life. Many breeders are (again IMO) sticking their heads in the sand on this subject because it has not affected them yet. Hopefully it never will. The more we educate everyone on this subject and share the information, the better off the breed will be. I will get off my soap box now.
