Four weeks after you pay, he will probably still be sitting on the check and
then rebill you,
in hopes you will pay it again.

Recently one of my dogs was shown in all-breed shows in Louisiana. On one
day he went WD/BOW. Today in the mail I received a nice picture of his win
from
the show photographer. That's good - I needed a good picture of him.
Then I looked to see how much the single 8x10 cost and saw $12. Very
reasonable I thought. Then I saw that my total bill was $28! Upon reading
the
invoice I saw the following:
"We charge a sitting fee when you/your agent requests a photo. This fee is
not for any photos or proofs sent, but consists of our time & expenses at
the
show. It is non-refundable. The prices below are adjusted to account for
this
fee."
Now I expect to pay a sitting fee to a photographer who travels to a
location specified by me, or even one who does special shots elsewhere on
the show
grounds. But in 40 years of showing I have never heard of a show
photographer
charging a fee just for walking into the ring. But I will admit that I am
show mostly at specialties and seldom at all-breeds out of town.
I was talking to a handler friend on the west coast and asked her if she'd
ever run into this out there, and she was just as surprised as I. Then we
decided we don't know much if anything about all-breeds in the east or south
and
perhaps this was something that part of the country sees all the time.
I intend to pay the full bill because I'm sure my handler did ask for the
picture and I'm glad he did, but has anyone run into this before?
