Jamie,
I got a peek at your proposed breeders code at the board meeting and agree
with it as long as it isn't a requirement for membership. With just a
revision or two, I would sign it.
I ask the questions I do because I do think it should be a choice. We
cannot legislate ethics, unfortunately. :(

Almost everyone to a PERSON has agreed that the present Breeders Code
(NOTE: NOT to be confused with the membership code that will keep people
like
Hunte out) is laughable at best, worthless at least.
I have tried to insert some substance and meaning into the damned thing
so that we can be proud of it! Give it a few baby teeth and an avenue of
discipline that would protect buyers and sellers alike. Give any
legislators that
come knocking on our door some tangible evidence that we are taking care of
our own breed. Emphasize the need to take back our dogs to keep them out of
the
pound and rescue. Stress the need for written contracts.
It suggests breeding sound dogs. It suggests that we don't make brood
sows out of our bitches. It suggests we try to do our best to breed wisely.
What it does NOT suggest is that the sky is falling.
