[ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: Short body length

My observation places the long back on the shoulder being
pushed      forward under the neck.  The foreleg should be under the top of the
blade,      not under the head.  Also, we are seeing dogs too short on leg
making       them seem longer.  The distance from the elbow to the ground
should be      just a bit more than the distance from the withers to the elbow.
I hope      the commentaries in our revised illustrated standard addresses
these      issues.                                            Carolyn

Yes Barbara you make an xint observation (again)
Conversely what we also see a LOT of is long and low stationed and running
"downhill"
We see dogs that have more of an 8 to 10 ratio or 8.5 to 11 ratio .   They
are long, interestingly most
with poor or lack of any decent slope of croup or length .  The length is
through the back and loin, and the
length of leg lacking, but interestingly again, PLENTY of length in the
hocks  (ick)...many times the hocks  are longer
than the stifles.
These dogs are lower from wither to hip..and run "downhill"  .  They have to
go like a bat out of hell,
to get those LOOONG hocks under them and often are strung up to give the
appearance of topline and front.
Make them go slow and loose and they come apart.
