I, too, have judged the Shiiloh and found them to be big hairy dogs.  They were
dropped by ARBA, I was told, due to infighting which literally split the club
but the fighting continued.  I have a
copy of their standard which was quite obviously taken directly from the GSD
standard with
a few deviations such as size and coat.  Because Tina could not show in AKC,
she simply
developed her own breed.   She started buying big shaggy dogs without regard
for the
structure called for in the standard.  Too bad that she started with such an
outstanding dog
as Gunsmoke and did not  pay attention to structure in her breeding program
because herein
is where the breed lost movement.  Of course, a huge dog will lose some
agility, but I do
not believe that was the crux of the problem, simply not having a foundation of
structurally
correct dogs.  Anytime the goal toward constant improvement is lost, mediocrity
is the
result.

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Shiloh Shepherd

I judged the Shilohs for years at ARBA.  One year I even gave one Best  In
Show, since he came closer to their standard than any other group winner
that  year came to their standard.  As best I recall it was between the Shiloh
and the Black Russian, and the Black Russian was too small.

The ones I judged in general were large, gentle, shaggy dogs, that were not
great movers, but real lovers.

I felt that they took a bunch of traits of our breed that were undesirable
and made a new breed from them. The temperament was way too friendly, the
coat  was an open coat and too long, they lacked front reach and rear drive,
and they  were too big to do the work we ask of a GSD.  But, the owners
loved  them.

Then Bob Slack,  the owner of ARBA and Tina had a fight over judging  them,
and they were excluded from ARBA.  I don't know if there is any venue  to
show a Shiloh any more, and I expect the dogs will die off as a breed.   Or,
maybe not.

I remain the attorney for ARBA.

My  overall
impression was just a  big, shaggy GSD w/ no type, often  questionable
temperament.
