[ SHOWGSD-L ] Sharing A special note about our Res. High in Trial, Babe

Babe is the granddaughter of 
Jene and Isabelle Dupzyk's beautiful and talented, AM/CAN Sel. HIT Ch. Nu Era's 
TragicallyHip Braveheart, HT, PT, HSAs .... ROM, OFA, TC  - the dog we all knew 
as "HIPPY".  He was HIGH IN (Herding) TRIAL at a Canadian National - with his 
friend and trainer Gloria. 
 
Babe is also the granddaughter of 
BISS BIM RHIT Ch. Kansten's Britten, HT, PT, HCT, JHD,  HRD-I, HRD-II, HTD-I, 
HTD-II, HTAD-I, CGC, TC, OFA h&e, who was also RESERVE HIGH IN TRIAL at a U.S. 
National - under the loving and skilled guidance of her "Mom", and my best 
friend, and partner, Dr. Gloria S. Rice. 
 
"Mia" as she was known to her friends, was bred by Gloria's close friend and 
mentor, Nancy Hubbell, and was co-owned by them, and dearly loved by us all.
 
On September 30th of 2008, Mia and Gloria walked out onto our Ranch, like so 
many mornings before, and Mia marched into the fields where she proceeded to 
(quite deliberately) segregate the goats from the sheep before moving the sheep 
into the practice arena for her Mom. This was a job that Mia assigned to 
herself a couple of years prior. She was thorough on this day, as usual, albeit 
a bit slower than in days past - this was to be the last time she would perform 
this duty -  Mia passed away two days later - just 13 days prior to her 13th 
birthday. 
 
Last Monday, a few hours before Gloria left in the RV on her trek with 8 dogs 
from California to Ohio, Babe joined Gloria in the sheep fields and low and 
behold, began segregating the goats and the sheep. In the blink of an eye, she 
had the two species clearly placed in their "assigned (by dog), and 
appropriate" positions in the fields.  Gloria and I both drew a breath and felt 
the presence of our beloved Mia. 
 
Babe works the flocks here on the Ranch on a daily basis, and is Gloria's full 
time sidekick and companion. 
 
We are all indeed very fortunate when we are blessed with descendants of the 
great ones that we have loved, adored and respected so.
