I didn't know that dogs could alert for diabetes. How does this work?

Hi Everyone
I met a lovely lady at the hospital the other day, while waiting for results
from some tests for Kaitlyn. She has a sister who is an EXTREME
diabetic...I mean to the point where her blood sugar can go from 80 to 500 in a
matter
of a few minutes. She has been rushed to the hospital in diabetic shock many
times....
Is there anyone who can give them info on diabetic detection, or alert dogs?
Her sister lives in Louisiana, and really needs help.
