Sadly there are people that have never lived with a completely sound German
Shepherd Dog with solid character that
is eager to please and confident and willing to do whatever you ask.
You can live with a great GSD that does not have the perfect long striding side
gait ......and suffer no real loss.
HOWEVER....until you live with a completely SOUND German Shepherd Dog with a
good healthy athletic body and strong
correct working drive with a bold, confident willingness to please that greets
new situations with curious confidence...you
suffer the loss of never knowing what a true German Shepherd Dog can be and
should be.

Well said Kathy!!
Our Breed is judged in three parameters
1. Temperament
2.Standing Anatomy
3. Movement
Our Breed has 3 natural gaits
1. Walk or pace
2. Slow to medium trot
3.Gallop
So that to me summarized it!!

exceptional or you miss one of life's great joys"

As a fancy, particularly in the Specialties we have paid far too much

shame. I barely recognize
the breed these days.

BRAVO Kay. I completely agree. Live Stream has captured these animals winning,
when they should have been excused. The loose lead exam is a requirement and
the instructions are explicit. The judge is supposed to fault poor character,
not award it.

Carolyn brings up several good points in her post but the one that struck me as
so important is her comment on the importance of watching temperament in our
breed. It is great that we have the streaming video so those of us on FB have
the opportunity to see GSDs all over the country. I have watched 3 Fut/Mat and
several specialty shows. I am extremely dismayed that I have seen very
respected judges award dogs, who could not be touched numerous times, be
awarded with first place wins and even reserves. In my opinion, if you can’t
touch the dog on the initial contact why are they being awarded? Yes, I
certainly understand that every dog can have a bad day, but that dog should be
judged on its performance that day and not be “given a break or a second or
third chance to behave”. I can just imagine Bob Penny rolling his eyes and
shaking his head. JMHO
