She has a mixed breed friend, doesn't seem to matter if he's out there with her. She urinates (and sometimes deficates) if left in her crate, no consistency. Sometimes after 15 minutes, sometimes after several hours. The owners also state that she's overly exhuberant to see them when they get home. I suggested to tone down the greeting, but the said they don't greet her for about 10 minutes and tell her to sit before being let out of the kennel/crate. Hmmmm...I can't fault a six month old puppy for barking after 5 hours in a run. There are some things they can try (getting up an hour earlier and taking her for a nice long walk before leaving, giving her a nice bone filled with peanut butter to chew on, or maybe one of those kongs filled with a little kibble), but honesty, I don't think carrying on after 5 hours is a mortal sin. That's a long time to leave a baby, and why I hate placing puppies where they'll be alone all day. Maybe they could run home at lunch to play or hire someone to come and walk and play with her during the day? The crate thing is odd. I've have her checked for a urinary infection. Little girls can get vaginitis, but that wouldn't explain the pooping. It sounds like she was allowed to be dirty at one point and is (now)comfortable being dirty. Usually, I'd say use a smaller crate, but here again, if they are gone for extended periods, that'd be just cruel. Overly exuberant to see then after they've been gone? Gosh, I don't have a problem there either. Now, if she so excited she's peeing, then you turn it back a notch, but, gosh, I'm happy to see my guys when I get home and at six months, I'm going down to their level for puppy kisses. Asking a six month old to sit when she's absolutely besides herself with joy before being let out of the kennel? Hmmmm...I put a CDX on a nine month old once and even I wouldn't have asked for that from her at six months. That's simply not a battle I'd choose to fight. The dog sounds pretty normal. (Could be they aren't "dog" people?) Anyway..... I'd have them get up earlier and walk her (not open the door and put her out, put a leash on her collar and go for a long walk!) in the AM before they attempt to leave her in a run all day. I'd try to come home at lunch or arrange for a dog walker. When they return, I'd have them go in another entrance, get out of their work clothes and into their play clothes so they can greet her too when she's delighted to see them. I'd make sure there isn't a little puppy vaginitis going on.
