[ SHOWGSD-L ] Sensitive issue

I'd like to open for discussion the topic of how to ensure our dogs' safety,
well-being and comfort when we die. Yep -- tough subject.
I'm 68. I've had three spinal surgeries, a knee replacement, a hip
replacement, and a double mastectomy for breast cancer. And at the moment,
I'm doing pretty well!!!
I have two children, neither of whom will take my dogs.
I have an 8-year-old immune compromised, neutered male who, at the moment,
is healthy. I also have a 6-year-old, spayed female who is totally fit. Both
are sweet, trained, loving -- no issues.
What am I to do?? What will YOU do?? Many -- most?? -- SOME -- have children
who will take up the slack, but if not????? The adage that the breeder will
take his/her dogs back is faulty -- my kids' breeders are either as old as
as I am or/older than I am.
I have to say I'm suffering major anxiety attacks. I MUST ENSURE THESE
DOGS' SAFETY AND PEACEFUL LIFE UNTIL THEIR NATURAL DEATH INTERVENES. THAT'S
MY COVENANT.
And no, as far as I know, my demise is not immanent. But I'm curious/anxious
to know how others have dealt with this issue.
AND -- how can this issue help advance LASTHOPEGSD's hope for a sanctuary
for GSD rescues? Is there a way we can help advance that? Dawn, and folks,
you need to address this.
All my friends have little dogs. My kids don't like dog hair. What am I to
do to do right by my beloved companions????????
It's a very painful discussion, but one we need to have.
