Even homeless people need companionship. It is so sad that there are homeless
people. But hard as it is to consider from our comfortable chairs in the air
conditioning, sometimes it means the world just to have the company of a dog.
I have personal experience, but will not speak further of it. Additionally
on the beach near Santa Monica, California I saw several homeless men with
dogs. I was out there for a wedding in '99.
My mom is a renter. Her neighbors have various views of the dogs themselves,
but they do all admit that they feel safer with 2 GSD's in an ajoining
townhouse. While they can be noisey when kids are out playing or leaves are
falling, none of the units nearby has been broken into in 8 years. Even the
neighbors who do not care for the dogs know they are safer for them being
there. Her landlord has no complaints either.

crummy part of town. Beside him, a very skinny GSD puppy..
Angela feels bad for the dog and pulls over...she thinks he found a stray.
But nooooooooo...this man owned this dog...and he was from a local breeder. The
man tells Angela he had no dog food because he doesn't work or have a home.
Angela brings him 40lbs of Eaglepack later that day and tells the man to call

When my Mom got wind of this, she called the breeder...apparently the man had
been sold the dog on a payment plan and wasn't heard from since taking the pup.
When asked WHY the future welfare of this dog wasn't considered...the answer
was..."Well, he seemed nice."
I seriously wonder what is wrong with people sometimes...
I am not judging this man(dog owner) as I am unsure of what led him to being
homeless. I am however wondering what would possess a breeder to give a puppy
to someone without ensuring it's future welfare! I mean c'mon, how can you let
one of your babies go to a tent with no possibilty of eating? Uh Duh....

After extensively interviewing people for puppy placement, I have come to
realize that it doesn't matter as much whether they rent/own as it does to
their character. Case in point: a doctor, his wife and 2 kids came to the house
(in their Mercedes-Benz) a few years ago. The were millionaires--told me of
their gated home, yada-yada. The kids were unruly. When we went outside so they
could see the pups, I told the children NOT to pick them up until I was there
to supervise. The 10 year old daughter ran ahead, grabbed a pup, swooped her
up, and she dropped her on her head! I was furious--told the parents they would
most likely get a puppy from someone, but it sure wasn't going to be from me.
The doctor was mad (at me), turned to the daughter who was crying and said
something like, "Don't worry. Let's go get an ice-cream!" Yeah, jerk--reward
BAD behavior!!
SOOOOOO, it isn't always the money a person has or the home he owns or DOESN'T
own. It's his character.
