San Antonio's "5 Year Plan for a No Kill Community by 2012" is dead. It was
DOA for multiple reasons: all new city officials who don't understand the
city's demographics nor the public health and safety functions of Animal
Care Services; who ignored Responsible Pet Owners Alliance and Nathan
Winograd, founder of No Kill Advocacy Center, when he came to San Antonio
last October and warned them about their proposed animal ordinance. Instead
they chose to listen to local "animal rights" activists and let them define
policy for the city. So we're in a "fine kettle of fish" now with more
animals given up by their owners so far this year in record numbers. * More

Every month, I get letters from people trying to deal with feral cats. This
week, Ms. Noriega tells me, "Six or seven cats are living in a drain pipe
inRimkus Park. I have called all the numbers in the phone book, and no
onewants to take the job of trapping and spaying them. They tell me I have
todo it myself."
Ms. Noriega is 72. Indeed, if we really expect senior citizens to trapcats,
haul them into spay/neuter clinics, pay for their surgeries, thenre-release
them and feed them every day, then I think we have officiallygone mad.
