There is nothing below an easy trot though, except for walking, or dogs incorrectly structured in order to obtain a slower than "easy" trot. I do agree with Tom, but I often ask for the dog to trot, the handler to walk. A correct moving dog can float at a slow speed, and often when I have had a great mover, I can stand still let him or her out on the lead and let them float around me. You can see a great deal of suspension at a slow speed. The true correct movers will do so at all speeds. Most of our dogs have their own speed, and look best at that speed. The job of a handler is to know what that speed is, and try to make sure the judge sees the dog at the right time. A great one, (dog that is) will look good at all speeds. I have seen dogs that never take a bad step. They are almost always something I have bred.
