Way back in the "olden days". I had one of my German Bred dogs who
deliberately went lame at shows. This was when we had shows in barns,rolling
skate rinks etc. The Midwest still had very few dog shows, or venues to have
shows as we have today. This dog had been shown in Germany many times,and
apparently accustomed to the huge outdoor facilities over there. At my home
and kennels, running around the 3 acres,never limped,but every time I'd
take him into a roped off ring area inside,he'd take one turn around the
ring,and start limping. I worked the dog Duxson in a roped off area,but he
knew
the difference,between home and a show. He just did not like conformation
shows. I switched to obedience( he was Sch111) and he became a star. He
taught me more about obedience than the trainers. And of course he NEVER went
