OMG Betty, I am so sorry that you were treated this way!! You are so right
about people being nasty scaring away the new folks. How many of us have
seen someone new in the ring that did something that was incorrect or that
showed their lack of experience? I can't help but think that the people who
laughed at you would also be the ones sniping behind this person's back as
well. I remember several years ago when we were at a very small all-breed
show, there were two bitches entered - mine, and a gal who was obviously
very new to showing (found out later that this was actually her first show)
- I can't tell you how excited she was to get that blue ribbon (she was the
only one in the class mind you) and my handler and I went and gave her a
huge congratulations and welcome to the dog show world, and hope you come
back, and if you have any questions please ask and we'll do our best to help
you out, etc. etc. etc - I think the smile on her face was actually bigger
than the one she had when she got her first place ribbon. My handler friend
and I remember that incident fondly and talk about how it felt great to be
part of a really positive, fun experience for this gal.
