My thanks to Evan for what he said about Robert yesterday. For people who
really knew Robert back then, you would know that he was very much saddened
by the insults and jealousy that ruined his career in dogs. I am sorry for
people who believe that he bred a different dog intentionally. I believe
that he was the victim of a vindictive kennel worker who set out to ruin him
and who made his life miserable with administrative investigations until he
finally left the Sate of Washington. I know people have their stories to
tell, but mine is one of respect Bob liked people, but was extremely
sensitive to criticism, and his reaction to the claims of the AKC was
withdrawal rather than an agressive defense. I wish he had taken Evan's
offerto represent him, but he didn't. Robert got us started in dogs in
1980right after our first shepherd died. I bought my next two shepherds
fromhis wife Judy when she was about 8 months pregnant with his son. His
personal life went up and down, but Ed and I were pleased with Robert's
efforts on our behalf and we co-owned our first champion, a GV Senator
littersister with him. He bought and finished our foundation bitch, Ch.
CovyTucker Fresca Nordlicht, and with her breeding to Andretti, Avion
Kennelswas born. I cannot thank him enough for his patience with newbies
like us at a time when we knew no one. That has changed in 26 years, but I
can say that the worst he ever did to us was not sell us Sunday Silence when
we said "yes" to her (the day after Dick and Jean Whalen bought her!). He
was honest and straight forward to us and earned his fees and our respect.
The Andretti fiasco was an awful end to a wonderful career for him, but he
isstill a genius at animal husbandry, as evidenced by his continued success
with breeding cattle. I am glad that he could continue to enjoy dogs
throughDonna Sater, and that the two of them could share the farm life he
loves. I hope he enjoys every minute he has with her. He did great things
for our breed with Andretti and those of us who bred to Andretti and have
enjoyed the successes of his progeny, and can look to continued success with
pedigrees that go back to Andretti have Bob to thank, His ouster from the
AKC was their loss, JMO. Claire Drosdick, Avion Kennels
