A few years ago, we had a GSD who, after we gave her Rimadyl, went down in the
rear and couldn't walk. She went down about 6 hours after dosing her. A
couple of days later, we stopped the Rimadyl and, within 24 hours, she was
fine. The Vets didn't want to believe that Rimadyl was the cause of her
collapsed rear, so they suggested we give her another dose of Rimadyl. We gave
her the Rimadyl and, sure enough, she went down again. We stopped the Rimadyl
and she was fine.

Many Vets, at the NC State Vet School, do not like prescribing Rimadyl. They
suggest giving dogs Ascriptin instead. Ascriptin has worked very well for
managing pain in our dogs and it is very cheap compared to Rimadyl. Good thing
Ascriptin works because Rimadyl scares me.

Of course........they purchase it in bulk size big bottles and
write prescriptions in small bottles for individual patients.
Our Vet says Rimadyl shouldn't be used on Labs and probably
Rotties...but if it IS going to cause a problem..it is almost
right away.
We had to use it for some time on Boss when he had Lymes and Ehrlichia

One thing our dogs and life teaches us....we all have some dark
painful 'emotional holes' to go through.

It is a common practice for the vets to change packaging to minimize
costs. Wonder what this will cost us on our bills.
