I'm wondering exactly what drug he WOULD have chosen for the dog to
alleviate the pain....had he read the labels of all of them......?

Sophie died in 2009 from Rimadyl toxicity, a little-known side effect
which can cause damage to the gastrointestinal tract, liver and kidneys.
Chris Cooper describes the settlement as "bittersweet," explaining:
"It's a major victory and that's all fine and good, but that doesn't
change the fact that they killed my beautiful baby,"

Sophie meant >the world to me, and no amount of money in the world can fix
that
emotional hole >that's going to be with me forever."
Sophie had been prescribed Rimadyl, for pain relief, after she underwent
surgery for a torn ligament in June, 2009. By July, Sophie had died from
respiratory failure caused by Rimadyl toxicity.
The medication that she received had been repackaged and her guardians did
not receive the warning material stating the possible side effects.
Cooper expressed his dismay over that lack of information about potential
life-threatening symptoms that some dogs may develop from ingesting the
drug, stating:
"If I had the information I had now, or someone had handed me a flier, I
never would have given (Rimadyl) to my dog,"
>"It's just heartbreaking to see these other people going through what I
went >through."
Sophie's guardians intend to use the settlement funds to help increase
awareness about the possible side effects of Rimadyl.
Cooper stated:I just hope we can inform as many people as possible about
the
potential side effects of this drug. ... It's the only thing that is going
to
let me sleep at night, knowing my baby didn't die in vain.
The website, Friends of Sophie, was created exactly for that purpose.
