Something I have suggested recently to a few board members is to develop
"perks" for members.
The Canadian Kennel Club has member perks......when you register dogs,
litters etc members get discounts. The CKC has a huge membership.....I never
understand why the AKC had nothing similar...there is no incentive to become a
member of the AKC in the same way.
So why not give things to members....for instance - at the national, say a
members entry fee is $30....a non member $40. Specials for members $40 non
members $50 or whatever the current prices are. Catalogues for members
cost 10% less than catalogues for non members at the nationals. You need to
make people want to join more than just to nominate futurity litters and get
the review, and unfortunately that is how many look at a membership now.
Give them something back....in this day of rising costs, every little bit
helps
and may just help the pc in bringing a few more in.
